Thich Quang Duc Memorial

So, as far as all the museums and memorials and touristy crap in Saigon, this was by far the one I liked the most. I stumbled into it by accident and it was completely empty. It was just a little park on the corner of a busy intersection and I had never read about its existence in any guides or any literature upon arrival.

Thich Quang Duc was the buddhist monk who lit himself on fire in 1963 in protest of the religious persecution being suffered by Buddhists in Vietnam at the hands of the Saigon (south) government (search Youtube). It's a super famous image of the whole current history of Vietnam and the memorial was really beautifully created. Lovely metal sculptures that were burning hot in the midday sun. Looky-looky!
